Marcia Lopes owns a company that makes knitwear from fine Peruvian alpaca cotton.
About 80 per cent of what her company produces is exported to the US. But this year sales are down by 70 per cent.
She has already had to lay off 80 people and fears that she will have to let a further 15 employees go by the end of February.
Marcia says she sees the human cost of the economic crisis every time she has to lay off one of her workers and that she is worried this year may be one of the last for the company she set up from her home 34 years ago.
This is Marcia’s story.
