Angry steel workers bolt down Belgium roadway

Hundreds of striking workers block border crossing with the Netherlands over cuts by top steel company.

Hundreds of Belgian steel workers have blocked a border crossing to the Netherlands to protest against planned job cuts by ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company.

More than 200 workers blocked the highway in both directions on Friday near the Belgian city of Liege, causing long traffic jams.

In January, ArcelorMittal announced plans to close a plant and six production lines in Liege, a move that threatens 1,300 jobs.
