Hunger persists as Philippine economy grows

Strong GDP growth only highlights widening gap between rich and poor Filipino families.

Britain is hosting an international summit aimed at addressing world hunger and malnutrition, which affect at least a billion people globally.

Some of them live in countries where the economy is rapidly growing, such as the Philippines, which recently posted a GDP growth of 7.8 percent.

But in the southern Philippine islands of Tawi-Tawi, that growth has only highlighted the widening gap between rich and poor.
