Avalanches on Mount Everest have left this year’s climbing season in disarray, with many Sherpa guides refusing to return to work.

At least 13 Sherpas were killed and three are missing after snow and ice came crashing down the mountain last week.

The accident was the deadliest in the mountain’s history.

Gavin Turner, an Australian mountaineer who was at Everest when the tragedy happened, spoke to Al Jazeera about how survivors are coping in its aftermath.
