Lahore fights kite festival ban

Supporters of Basant are pushing authorities to lift 2005 ban on centuries-old tradition.

Basant is a spring festival which used to be one of Pakistan’s most popular events, attracting thousands of kite-flyers from all over the world to Lahore.

But the centuries-old tradition, which has roots in Hinduism, has been banned since 2005 because authorities said it had become too dangerous.

But now many Basant supporters are pushing the government to legalise it again.
