Gloomy outlook for UK retailers

Consumers spend less as festive season nears while German bonds auction flops amid efforts to tackle eurozone crisis.

Eurozone finance ministers will meet again in Brussels with a hope of finding a way out of the economic crisis spreading.

However, that hope did not extend to consumers who have been holding on to their cash.

It was a sentiment that was shared by the markets when, for the first time since the creation of the euro, an auction of German bonds failed.
