Leaders of emerging economies meet in China in bid to increase influence on global agenda.
The leaders of the world’s developing economies have met in Sanya, China for a one-day summit.
The BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – have repeatedly called for the reform of the global monetary and financial system and more promises of cooperation among themselves. South Africa joined the bloc as a permanent member in April this year.
The meeting gave this ad-hoc group an opportunity to test its collective strength ahead of an all-important G-20 meeting in France in November and to bring the concerns of developing nations to the top of the global agenda.
