Hong Kong restaurants are feeling the pinch as the public begins to shun sushi hoping to avoid radiation poisoning, despite government assurances of safety and although no produce has been sourced from Japan.

The panic echoes a recent frenzy for iodized salt in the belief it would protect against cancer.

Reports from the city’s weather office that minute traces of radiation are being detected in the air have not helped even though experts assert they are insignificant.
