Communities along Sudan’s volatile border with South Sudan are bracing themselves for more violence.
Omar al-Bashir, the Sudanese president, has declared a state of emergency in the Blue Nile state after his army clashed with rebels formerly aligned to south Sudanese rebels.
Bashir also fired the state governor and replaced him with a military ruler.
Fighters loyal to the former governor are now battling the Sudanese army. Thousands of people have reportedly fled the area.
