Feeling the heat

The hot weather took its toll on runners in the 116th Boston Marathon

Monday’s Boston Marathon took place under the hottest weather the event had seen since 1976. Temperatures reached between 28 and 32C during the race. Some competitors were deterred by warnings of the extreme heat but many had trained too long and hard to let a little warm weather put them off. Our gallery shows the pain and grief competitors were prepared to endure.
