Guatemala taps smartphones to ease water woes

New mobile phone application allows users to submit GPS-tagged data on faulty water systems.

An organisation in Guatemala has developed a smartphone application, or “app”, that allows users to record information about water projects.

Information gathered through the app is then available to any computer connected to the internet. The app’s GPS tagging capabilities allows data on the exact locations of failing water systems to be collected.

Al Jazeera’s David Mercer reports from Santa Cruz del Quiche, Guatemala.
