French public divided over Syria intervention

Military ready to commit forces to Syria operation, but 59 percent of Frenchmen prefer a peaceful solution.

French President Francois Hollande has been underlining his political and humanitarian support for the Western-backed Syrian opposition.

His defence minister has confirmed that the French military is ready to commit forces to an operation in Syria if requested.

But on the streets of Paris, the public appetite for military intervention varies.
