Riot-displaced north Indians afraid to return

Families driven from their homes in Uttar Pradesh by September’s communal unrest not buying government’s line on safety.

In the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the impact of violence that forced thousands of people from their homes in September continues to be felt.

Hundreds of families are still living in temporary relief camps because they are too scared to go home due to communal tensions. But the government insists the area is safe and is now trying to clear the camps.
