India blamed for Sri Lanka fish decline

Fishermen struggle to make a living because of low fish stocks, accusing Indian trawlers of damaging environment.

Sri Lanka is accusing India of devastating the livelihoods of its fishermen.

Representatives of Sri Lankan fishermen say that Indian trawlers are using banned fishing methods, which damage the environment and are responsible for low fish stocks.

The government has arrested 271 Indian fishermen since January but India says the Sri Lankan navy harasses its nationals.
