Since the start of the outbreak of Ebola virus, more than 2,900 people have died.
Most of the cases were reported in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
But Ebola is not always fatal.
Just under half of those who catch the virus recover, and are eventually discharged from hospital.
Too often, however, they still find that their families and their lives have been deeply affected.
Al Jazeera has met survivors in the town of Kenema, in eastern Sierra Leone.
